Bona Film Group is financing the $35m fantasy martial arts film, titled Zu Warriors: Dawn Of Darkness, which is expected to start shooting in late July/early August in Beijing.

The film will use the same high-end stereoscopic 3D technology that Tsui used in his acclaimed 2011 hit Flying Swords Of Dragon Gate and his upcoming Detective Dee prequel. It is likely there will also be an IMAX version of the film.

The Tsui Hark-directed Zu Warriors From The Magic Mountain (1983) was the first Chinese movie to make extensive use of visual effects, with Tsui importing Hollywood technicians to work on the film. He directed The Legend Of Zu in 2001, based on the same martial arts mythology, starring a young Zhang Ziyi.

The films are set in a fantastical world of gods and demons where the forces of good and evil battle each other with superhuman powers.

Yuen Woo Ping has directed films such as True Legend and Iron Monkey and recently worked as action director on Keanu Reeves’ Man Of Tai Chi.

Meanwhile, Tsui is planning to direct 3D action adventure Tracks In The Snowy Forest, backed by Bona Film Group, from November 2013.

Part of the agreement is to co-finance, produce and distribute the next three installments in the Transporter franchise. Each film will have a budget between $30 million and $40 million, and at least one of them will be shot in China. No word if Jason Statham will reprise his role.

I agree only on these conditions: Statham is a lead delivering parcels across Asia (China, Japan, Korea, Thailand), the best Asian action stars play villains (Collin Chou, Tim Man, Byung-hun Lee, Kane Kosugi) and fighting choreography on Corey Yuen, Cyrill Raffaelli and Larnell Stovall… And everyone erasing from their memory existing of crappy TV series.

The first Transporter film hit theaters in 2002 and went on to gross $44 million on a budget of $21 million. EuropaCorp decided to move forward with a sequel and was rewarded with earnings of $85 million. The third film was soon greenlit and went on to become the highest-earning installment in the franchise, with $109 million.

Camille Delamarre is directing the Brick Mansions movie and Luc Besson, Ryan Kavanaugh, Tucker Tooley and Christophe Lambert producing. Camille Delamarre is an ex-editor who worked before on Colombiana, Transporter 3, Taken 2, Transporter: The Series, so we can expect another well-made action from another Luc Besson’s protege.

The script sees Paul Walker play an undercover cop who is tasked with going into a tenement named Brick Mansions in order to disarm a neutron bomb that is ticking down. David Belle plays his friend. RZA has come aboard to play the formidable drug warlord in the community who is in possession of the bomb. The French-Colombian actress Catalina Denis will play Belle’s girlfriend who is kidnapped by the warlord.

In what sounds like a crafty cousin to Lundgren’s own Universal Soldier, Invincible will feature the action icon – whose showiest role of late has been in the “Expendables” films – as an unconquerable science-experiment/killer created by the military using Nanotechnology that eventually stops taking orders. Like his character in the Soldier films, Brock Mason was a soldier before his reanimation, and just as Andrew Scott did in the former, this chap also gets loose and starts terrorizing the city.

Instead of another Universal Soldier going after him though, it’s a cop who is charged with the mission of bringing the big guy down. In a shootout with Brock, the detective is killed but is given another opportunity at life by way of the same invincibility serum that created Brock. Now, as strong and as powerful as his adversary, the cop hits the street under his super heroic new guise – ready to take down the previously unstoppable Brock.
